All-State Band |
| The
2009 Inaugural Indiana Junior All-State Band Festival will be
held Thursday and Friday, January 22 and 23 at the Indiana Convention
Center. The event is jointly sponsored by the Indiana Bandmasters
Association (IBA) and the Indiana Music Educators Association
(IMEA). The finale concert will be featured on Friday, January
23 at the 2009 IMEA Convention. This will be an exciting new opportunity
for 100 outstanding junior high age students! Any student who
applies for the IBA All-Region Honor Band may submit an audition
tape/CD for the Junior All-State Band. Students must apply to
All-Region in order to audition for the Junior All-State. The
audition music, student applications, and director summary forms
are available for download below. |
| The
All-State audition will consist of each student recording two
prescribed excerpts onto a tape or CD. After All-Region registration,
each All-Region site will provide a panel of directors to listen
to and rank their site's entries. Then, all tapes/CD's will be
sent to a central site, separated by instrument, and sent out
for a final listening and ranking. (Please contact your All-Region
site host if you are available to listen to your site's tapes.) |
| Students
selected for the All-Region Band will turn-in their All-State
audition tape/CD and $10 audition fee (cash or check payable to
IBA) at All-Region registration on Saturday, November 22, and
will be expected to participate in the entire All-Region weekend.
Students who applied to All-Region but were not accepted will
also need to turn-in their All-State audition tape/CD and $10
audition fee at registration or make arrangements to have their
director bring these to registration. No tapes will be
accepted after registration. |
| Before
signing a student's application form, please confirm the student's
availability for the entire All-State event. Registration begins
Thursday, January 22 at 8:30 AM at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel,
with the first rehearsal beginning at 10:30 AM. The concert is
on Friday, January 23 at 1:00 PM and students will be dismissed
to parents by 2:00 PM. Students participating are required to
attend all events (100% of every rehearsal) during the festival.
Students unable to make that commitment should not audition. Students
/ schools provide their own transportation to Indianapolis. |
| Dr.
Susan Creasup, Assistant Director of Bands at Morehead State
University, will conduct the Junior All-State Band. She is highly
respected in our profession and will make this an incredible experience
for everyone. Directors are welcome to observe the rehearsals. |
| We
will rely on you to volunteer your help and expertise on Thursday
and Friday as a chaperone/staff member (sectionals, etc.). Your
hotel room (2 to a room) and all meals (4) will be paid for, plus
IMEA will be offering 50% off the IMEA Convention registration
fee for those directors who chaperone with us! Please contact
Dave Cole if you would like to join us as a staff member/chaperone. |
| Please
encourage your students to apply for All-Region Band and to submit
an audition tape/CD for Junior All-State. This will be a musical
experience your most talented students will never forget! Questions
may be directed to the event co-chairs BJ
Marks or David
Cole. |

You
may submit your audition on CD or standard size cassette tape.
While a CD will capture your sound with more accuracy, you should
use the method with which you are most familiar. If you have
never recorded yourself onto a CD before, you need to plan time
in advance to be sure you understand how to do this. Ask your
director if you have questions.
