Application/Recording Upload

Directors must register their school for the Junior All-State Band audition event. Fill out the Director/School Registration. When you complete the form and press submit, the next screen will show you a “school access code” for you to distribute to your students.

Students register individually online by selecting Student Application.  The school access code must be used to start the application. When a student completes a form you will automatically receive a computer generated email verifying the registration. The $10 audition fee may be paid by check or school PO via U.S. mail or online via PayPal ($1.00 processing fee).  If the student selects the check by mail option, a page will appear with an invoice to be printed and returned with the check.

The Junior All-State audition will consist of two excerpts to be recorded (MP3 or M4A) and uploaded with the student application.  The recording may not be electronically edited.  Students submit their application and upload their audition recording online.  The application/upload window will close at 9:00 PM EST on Saturday, November 12. No late entries will be accepted!

The audition recordings must be submitted via an upload with the application. Be sure you read and follow all of the instructions below. These instructions are for using a computer and microphone to record your audition. You may use any recording software you like. You may also use a digital recorder. The recordings must be MP3 or M4A files and less than 10MB in size each.  The system will not accept any other formats like wav, mov, or others.

It will probably take you several attempts before you feel you have your best work on each excerpt. Upload only your final (best) recording. You must play each excerpt in “one take,” meaning you are not allowed to use digital editing to piece together sections of an excerpt from multiple recording attempts.  Any audition deemed to be edited will be disqualified.

New this year: DO NOT say your name or school on any recording.  All auditions will be assigned a number and listened to “blind” by the selection committee.  It is recommended that you have your director and/or private teacher listen to the recordings before you complete the application/upload process.

Making the Recording:

  1. Record in a quiet place with no distracting noises.
  2. Do some test recordings to determine how close you should be to your microphone.
  3. Record the 1st excerpt.  Select your best recording to upload.  Flute students who also want to audition on piccolo should use the pause feature and then record the piccolo with the 1st flute excerpt. Flute excerpt 1 and the piccolo excerpt must be uploaded as one file.
  4. Record the 2nd excerpt. Select your best recording to upload.
Selection Process
A selection committee will review the auditions using a “blind” format.  Student recordings will be assigned a number and the listener will not know the student’s name or school.  Please confirm your students’ availability for the entire Junior All-State event.  Students must participate in 100% of the event activities.

Registration begins Thursday, January 12 at 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM at the Grand Wayne Convention Center (Anthony Wayne Ballroom B) located at 120 West Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, with the first rehearsal beginning at 7:00 PM.  The concert is on Saturday, January 14 at 9:00 AM in the Embassy Theater in downtown Ft. Wayne.  The students will be dismissed to parents by 11:00 AM.

Students participating are required to attend all events (100% of every rehearsal) during the festival.  Students unable to make that commitment should not audition.  Students / schools provide their own transportation to Ft. Wayne.

Cost: $195 per student
