Indiana Band Director Mentoring Project

Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA)

Membership in IBA may be individual or school, but is in the name of the band director. Memberships run September 1 through August 31. Membership renewals are due by Friday of week 11. Membership forms are submitted online. General membership meetings for all members are held on Saturday of week 29 at the IMEA State Convention and Friday of week 36 during the All-State Band Weekend.

IBA Sponsors many educational opportunities for students, including:

All-Region Honor Band Open to students in grades 7-9 at various locations. Applications for the All-Region Honor Band are due in mid September (Friday of week 11). The bands are selected by recommendation with no audition. Each site host forms a committee to select their All-Region Band from the many applications that are submitted by band directors. The bands meet and rehearse during a weekend in mid November (Saturday of week 19). Saturday is an all day rehearsal with a short rehearsal and concert on Sunday afternoon. Many band directors will bring their students to the All-Region Band and stay to help with auditions and sectionals throughout the day on Saturday. This is also an excellent opportunity to see excellent teachers/conductors as they work with the All-Region Band members to put their concert together in a relatively short amount of time.

All-District Honor Band Open to students in grades 9-12 at various locations. The format for this event is very similar to the All-Region Bands. Students are chosen by recommendation with no audition. The deadline for applications is in mid September (Friday of week 11) and the rehearsal and concert occur on a weekend in late November (Saturday of week 20).

Junior All-State Band This ensemble is for students in grades 7 - 9. Students submit an online audition recording of pre-selected audition music. The timeline for the event is below: September - Audition music is available on the IBA website (Monday of week 18) November - Audition recordings and applications are submitted before All-Region Honor Band Weekend (Friday of week 19). December - Junior All-State Band personnel are announced (Monday of week 23) January - Junior All-State Band rehearses and performs at the Indiana Music Educators Association State Convention.

All-State Bands The All-State Band event includes two bands (the All-State Band and the All-State Honor Band). These groups are selected by audition according to the timeline below: October - Audition music is available at IBA web site (Monday of week 15). December - Applications due (Friday of week 22). January - Auditions take place at various regional locations (Sunday of week 28 or 29). February - Band members are announced (Friday of week 30) . Registration materials are due from participants (Friday of week 31. March - All-State Band Weekend Friday - Registration and auditions. Rehearsals begin (Friday of week 36). Saturday - Rehearsals continue (Saturday of week 36). Sunday - Final rehearsals. Concert in mid-afternoon (Sunday of week 37).
